Johnstone's Paint Trophy defenders Doncaster get Bradford in the first round

Johnstone's Paint Trophy holders Doncaster begin the defence of their hard won title with a home tie against Bradford.

14 Aug 2007

Graeme Lee's extra-time header saw the Yorkshire club defeat Bristol Rovers 3-2 at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on April 1 earlier this year.

Doncaster Rovers chairman John Ryan said: "We wanted a home draw and it will be a good local derby against Bradford.

"It was a fantastic day out in Cardiff, a great atmosphere and just the perfect day."

"We've won our first major trophy and it would be good to retain it."

Bristol Rovers, defeated by Doncaster Rovers in last year’s final, were one of 16 teams handed a bye into the second round along with Bury, Carlisle, Darlington, Leeds, Lincoln, Port Vale, Rochdale, Stockport, Barnet, Brighton, Cheltenham, Gillingham, Hereford, MK Dons and Wycombe.

Football League new-boys Dagenham and Morecambe were handed tricky away draws on their competition debut.

Dagenham, who won the Conference title last season, travel to two-time finalists Southend - relegated from the Championship - while Morecambe make the trip to Tranmere.

Crewe, beaten in the Northern Final last season, face Chester at the Deva Stadium. Two-time European Cup winners Nottingham Forest, beaten by Bristol City on penalties in the quarter-finals, host League Two Peterborough at the City Ground.

Swansea, winners in 2006, welcome Millwall to the Liberty Stadium._For rounds one and two, the clubs will be equally divided into regional sections and then sub-divided again into north east and north west in the northern section and south east and south west in the south.

The final is scheduled for Wembley on March 30, 2008.
