5-A-Side team revel in a return visit to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final
A football team from Plaistow will again swap their humble home pitch for the Home of Football when they play in a 5-A-Side Final at the new Wembley Stadium.
A football team from Plaistow will again swap their humble home pitch for the Home of Football when they play in a 5-A-Side Final at the new Wembley Stadium.
Nova Decorators, a customer of the Johnstone’s Leyland Decorating Centre in Barking, triumphed last year with a win at the national stadium.
Dubbed the number one football team in decorating circles, Super Nova FC will again visit the hallowed turf for their second 5-A-Side clash.
The team will play at Wembley Stadium just before kick-off of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final on Sunday 5th April 2009 after they tackled and sprinted their way through to the finals of the national 5-A-Side competition run by Johnstone’s Paints.
Super Nova FC battled it out to become the Southern Area winners after a 1-0 win over Lyndhurst FC. The family based team will now be playing against the Northern Area winners, Glenwood Paints from Darlington.
James Ling, Super Nova FC team captain can’t wait for the Final. He said: “Well what can I say - we never expected to get to Wembley again. For it to happen to us twice, it’s just fantastic.
“We didn’t think we would make it as we played a tough team in the first round and lost 4-0, but this made the lads more determined and look where we are now. Bring on Glenwood Paints!”
For the two lucky finalists the prize includes a 49-seater coach and tickets for their respective supporters to the Final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy between Luton Town and Scunthorpe United.
Football kits and changing facilities will be provided for both teams and there will be a trophy and medals for the winning team as a memento of the day.
Gina Laycock, Decorating Centre Marketing Manager for Johnstone's Paints, said: “The momentum that encapsulates this competition is just fantastic. Everyone at Johnstone’s really takes pleasure in giving players the opportunity to have their moment of glory on the pitch. The 5-A-Side teams that want to take part in the competition and have that chance to feel like premiership players at Wembley are ever increasing.
“This year we welcome back Super Nova FC and would like to wish them the best of luck in the final. Who knows, it could be third time lucky next year!”
Johnstone’s Paints offered customers and colleagues the chance to play in a special 5-A-Side competition. Knockout rounds for the competition kicked off in January 2009 with hundreds of players being involved. It proceeded through to an Area Final stage and now the two winning teams will meet at the Final on Sunday 5th April 2009. Johnstone’s.
