Deano has a Beano with the Johnstone's Paint Trophy
If there’s a more popular left back in league football than Dean Lewington, then the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy is yet to hear about him.
If there’s a more popular left back in league football than Dean Lewington, then the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy is yet to hear about him.
The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy celebrated the third year of its sponsorship with the football league by calling on supporters to vote for their favourite left backs who are currently wearing the number three shirt for their clubs.
Thousands of MK Dons fans flocked to the trophy’s official website to vote for ‘Deano’ who polled 76 per cent of the votes – making him the official Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s Favourite Number Three.
The 24 year-old was easily the most popular left back amongst Football League supporters, and will receive a magnum of champagne on behalf of Johnstone’s before his side’s second round clash with AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday October 7.
Johnstone’s Paint Trophy sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said that Lewington’s popularity came as no surprise, after watching his performances last season as the Dons won the competition at Wembley.
She said: “We launched this online initiative because we wanted to commemorate our third year of sponsorship in a novel way.
“Because most left backs wear the number 3 shirt, we thought it would be nice to see which one was the most popular amongst Football League fans.
“It came as no surprise to see Dean getting so many of the votes. He is something of a cult hero amongst fans having been with the club from day one.
“And it is nice to see a familiar face scooping the prize – the last time we saw Dean was with his triumphant team mates on Wembley’s hallowed turf back in March!”
Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
