Decorating centers look after the pennies - and the shirts look after themselves
The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy partnership with World Emergency Relief has hit the target in impressive style, after hundreds of shirts – and pounds – were raised for charity.

The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy teamed up with World Emergency Relief to launch a shirt amnesty, in an attempt to provide replica tops to kit out football mad youngsters in developing communities.
After issuing the charity call in November, fans have inundated Johnstone’s Decorating Centres up and down the UK to drop off their treasured tops, with 780 football shirts being given to the cause already.
Jeff Morgan, Johnstone’s Decorating Centre Manager at the Cardiff Branch is leading the way with 130 shirt donations, while Michael Fuce at Mowbray Drive, Blackpool, collected 116 shirts, 122 shorts and 60 tracksuit tops.
Other notable successes were noted at Newcastle Shieldfield, Wakefield and Sheffield Lower Manor Decorating Centres.
On top of this, Football League clubs have also backed our campaign, with Charlton Athletic, Notts County, Port Vale, Grimsby Town and Brighton & Hove Albion all donating official replica shirts.
On the donations front, Peter Ratcliffe, Johnstone’s Decorating Centre Manager at the Chelmsford Branch raised the most money across our network of Decorating Centres. So far, a fantastic £2,630 has been raised for this well deserved charity.
WER is working in partnership with South African Christian charity Monte Christo Ministries to develop a football and community programme in Paarl East, South Africa, called ‘Kick in into Play.’ All football shirts received will now be shipped out to Paarl East, where youngsters will be able to train and play in better quality kits.
Johnstone’s Paint Trophy sponsorship manager Sally Binns said: “We have been amazed by the generosity shown so far. To have received so many shirts and so much cash already is a great effort and we would like to thank everyone involved for their efforts.”
The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy is always looking for ways to engage with local communities, particularly in towns and cities near to where fixtures are being played.
Community art exhibitions, design-a-boot competitions and free footballs for pupils have all been provided in recent months, in a bid to get as many youngsters involved in football as possible.
