Here comes the bride...and she's off to watch Scunthorpe

Something old, something new, something claret, something blue! For Scunthorpe couple Lindsey Heath and Ken Blades, that will be the new wedding tradition as they prepare to dash off to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final just hours after tying the knot.

The lifelong Scunthorpe United fans will get married on Saturday April 4, before making a unrehearsed honeymoon appearance at Wembley, the very next day, as they cheer on the Iron against Luton Town.

The couple have spent the last 12 months planning for their big day at Wortley House Hotel, but realised that they faced missing their team’s biggest day out, in recent years as Scunthrope United secured their place in the trophy final.

But thankfully, Johnstone’s Paints have agreed to give the newlyweds the VIP treatment and will provide them with full hospitality passes to celebrate their special occasion just hours after their wedding.

Brand manager Tom Newton said: “As soon as we heard of Lindsey and Ken’s dash to get to the final after their wedding day, we were only too happy to give them a present to remember.

“We will give them the full VIP treatment courtesy of two hospitality passes and we look forward to meeting the happy couple on the day.

“In keeping with Johnstone’s and our range of premium products we will be bringing as much colour to their big day as possible.”

Ken said the prospect of missing Scunthorpe’s big day out was never an option, despite the advice from his in-laws.

He said: “We went to the Rotherham area final second leg when we secured our final place and thought – what are we going to do now we are at Wembley?!

“We knew we had a big decision to make. The in-laws said that we couldn’t possibly go to the final because of the wedding, but Lindsey and I both said there was no reason why not!”

The couple will enjoy Scunthorpe’s clash with Luton Town and will then prepare for a honeymoon around the Mediterranean soon afterwards.

He added: “I can’t wait for the big day – and the wedding. My best man will also be going to the final along with some other friends and we are all looking forward to it.

“It is great news to get the VIP treatment from Johnstone’s and we hope that Scunthorpe will get the right result on the day.”

Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
