Luton Town receive award

It's hats off to the Hatters!

It’s a case of hats off to the Hatters for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, after the competition honoured Luton Town with its prestigious Team of the Round award.

10 Dec 2008

Mick Harford’s men have been handed the accolade, thanks to his side’s impressive 1-0 win away in the West Midlands at Walsall in the area quarter finals southern section.

It means that the Kenilworth road club are just a possible three games away from a nostalgic return to Wembley – the place they enjoyed their finest hour when winning the League Cup in 1988.

Harford was a member of that winning side – who upset the odds in beating Arsenal – and he is hoping that a good cup run this season will also galvanize his troops.

He said today: “This is great news for the players and the club. We were chuffed to win at a tough place like Walsall, and to have something to remember the performance with is lovely.”

Luton will now host Colchester United in the area semi-final and will hope that home advantage will prove conclusive.

Johnstone’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “Luton Town have certainly caught the eye in this season’s competition, and we are delighted to reward them for a job well done in the area quarter final.

“They squeezed past Brentford on penalties in the second round, so maybe they are destined for great things as we enter the critical stages of the competition.”

Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
