New and innovative boots

Johnstone's stick the boot in

Sticking the ball in the back of the net speaks for itself, but when the onion bag ripples from a man wearing a coloured pair of boots, then something extra special is often being said. The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy has found out some startling facts about players who wear more unconventional footwear, featuring all manner of garish designs.

Forget black, when a player laces up white, green, orange or blue boots, he is saying far more about his own personality that supporters may not know about.

Johnstone’s Paints, which promises to bring colour to the beautiful game, carried out the research to celebrate its sponsorship extension of the Football League Trophy for another three years.

According to the competition, players who wear:

• White: Players wearing white have strong connotations with youth and purity. They may also crave simplicity. So expect them to be young, innocent, and incapable of understanding anything other than 4-4-2.

• Red: Red is the colour of strength, health and vitality. Footballers who wear red are ambitious, sometimes abrupt and determined to get all they can out of the game. Every good team needs one man wearing red. Any more than that could be a recipe for disaster though.

• Pink: Pink boots symbolize love and affection and anyone wearing them desires special treatment and protection. Basically, if you wear pink, then be prepared to get kicked.

• Orange: Orange is the colour of luxury, so if you see one of your players wearing it, then it stands a good chance he is not be too keen on the ‘muck and nettles’ side of the game.

• Green: Anyone wearing green may get exploited, so you should hope that your defence doesn’t opt for this colour. No more clean sheets! It is a colour associated with hope though, so if your team desperately requires some positive results, maybe one or two attacking players should don a pair.

• Blue: If a player you know wears blue boots, you shouldn’t let them near many penalties…It is the colour of deliberation and introspection.

And finally… •

• Black: There is a reason players wear black. It is a dignified and impressive look without being showy.

Marketing manager Tom Newton said: “The research was just a bit of fun really. The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy is all about bringing colour to the beautiful game.

“So when we saw more and more players ditching the contemporary black designs for colourful boots, we thought we should look deeper into it.

“We all prefer the good old fashioned black boots, but it certainly stands out when other shades are worn. Long may it continue!”

Johnstone’s Paints also boasts an impressive matching service, where any footballer can bring their coloured boots into their nearest decorating centre and get that exact shade replicated on their walls.
