Foxes manager, Nigel Pearson, saw his side progress to the third round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on the 23rd September 2008, which brings them ever closer to their dream of playing at Wembley.
City edged through their second-round tie against the League Two side with a penalty shoot-out success following a goalless 90 minutes at the Walkers Stadium.
The young Foxes, whose average age was just 21, won a place in the last 16 of the competition following an anxious spot – kick settler.
Pearson said: “It was a difficult night at times but it was pleasing to get through and keep a clean sheet in the process. We did not create many chances, which is disappointing, but the idea of the night was to get through to the next round and ultimately to Wembley.
“The crowd also had the added bonus of seeing a penalty shoot-out, and I think the players coped very well with that experience.”
