Ultra Team of the Round award

Ultra honour for first round teams

Following the first round stage of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy competition two teams were delighted to receive the highly sought after ‘Ultra Team of the Round’ award recently.

03 Oct 2008

From the northern section of the draw, Morecambe FC were victorious whilst in the southern section, AFC Bournemouth took the honours. Both matches were played on 2nd September 2008.

The award is presented to the winning teams, by a Johnstone’s Paints representative, as an accolade to their performance on match night.

Darren Anderton of the Cherries received the award at the Fitness First stadium in front of a crowd of home fans before a league clash with Darlington FC on Saturday 27th September. Morecambe’s team captain, Jim Bentley, was presented with the engraved glass trophy on 2nd October 2008.

New Bournemouth boss, Jimmy Quinn enjoyed a dream start to the competition as his team notched up an impressive win in the game.

On the win, Quinn commented: "It's an absolute pleasure to be back. I've seen the players and am confident that I can keep them in the division and in contention for the prestigious silver plate Johnstone’s Paint Trophy."

Morecambe boss, Sammy Mcilroy could not thank his goalkeeper, Barry Roche, enough after saving plenty of Oldham attempts to gain a lead in the match.

The Shrimps were on their way to victory after a rousing effort but unfortunately could not find the winning goal – but they came out on top on penalties, with Dave Artell, O'Carroll, Paul Lloyd, Hunter and Andrew Parrish netting great on-spot kicks.

The battle for the title will now continue on 7th October 2008 with AFC Bournemouth against League 1 side, MK Dons and Morecambe taking on League Two side, Chester City.

Johnstone’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “Everyone at Johnstone’s is looking forward to the second round. If the clubs continue to play the way they are at the moment we are surely set for a great final. These clubs deserve the recognition of all their hard work.

“The award is now being sponsored internally by the Johnstone’s Ultra range which is designed to provide the highest standard of finish in the fastest possible time. Both teams have certainly taken a leaf out of our book when it comes to scoring high quality goals!”

Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
