Forster focusing on Saints

Norwich and Southampton are two of the form sides in League One and have the opportunity to move a step closer to Wembley when they meet in the regional semi-finals of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

December 2009

The two sides shared the spoils in a thrilling 2-2 draw at St Mary’s last month and will go head-to-head again to contest the right to face Hereford or MK Dons in the Southern Section final.

The Canaries booked their place in the last four with a win on penalties over Swindon after the game at the County Ground finished goalless after 90 minutes. Saints progressed to this stage with a 2-1 home win over Charlton and Canaries goalkeeper Fraser Forster is wary of their threat.

Forster, who has extended his loan from Newcastle until the end of the season, was the hero in the previous round as he saved Craig Easton's penalty to earn a 5-3 shoot-out victory over the Robins.

Forster said: “We don't really think about Wembley yet. It's just that we want to win every game we play in and all the lads are that professional that everyone wants to win.”

The other Southern Section semi-final clash sees League Two side Hereford entertain MK Dons - who won the Trophy in 2008 - at Edgar Street.

The Bulls scraped past Leyton Orient while the Dons overcame Northampton.

Simon Grayson’s high-flying Leeds will fancy their chances of reaching Wembley. United play League Two outfit Accrington at Elland Road and Grayson said: “It's a home draw and that's what you want in any competition. “We're three games away from a Wembley final and as I've said before, it's a competition we are looking to get to the final in.

“We'll do our homework on Accrington and will prepare for the game as we would any other.”

The second semi-final sees Carlisle entertain Bradford, raising the prospect of a mouthwatering Yorkshire derby between Leeds and the Bantams in the Northern Section final
