Hereford United receive the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Team of the Round award for the Area Quarter Finals

Hereford looking at Hatters for inspiration

Hereford United are taking inspiration from Luton Town’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy glory in a bid to spur them on to similar success.

December 2009

Manager John Trewick said that his side had nothing to fear from their area semi-final with MK Dons and should look at the Hatters for inspiration.

The Edgar Street boss was speaking after being presented with the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s team of the round award, for their outstanding penalty-shoot out success against Leyton Orient.

Trewick said: “I think that every team takes the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy extremely seriously and we are certainly no different.

“You’ve only got to look at the teams left in the competition to see how strong it is.

“The games in the JPT have given us great momentum, so the competition has been invaluable for us.

“When you play teams from a higher division and win, as we have, it gives you a real lift and now we find ourselves in the area semi-finals. We are realistically looking at things and thinking ‘why not?’

“You’ve only got to look at how well Luton Town did last season for inspiration. They were dead and buried in the league but embraced the trophy from the off and enjoyed a fantastic experience at Wembley.”

Trewick added that the carrot of playing at the Home of Football was spurring his side on as they prepare to tackle a team they know a lot about.

“We do know a lot about MK Dons. We played them twice last season and they are a very good side. They have got some great players that we all know about, but we have got home advantage and we think that we have got a realistic chance.”

Hereford United will welcome MK Dons to Edgar Street on Tuesday December 15th at 7pm.

Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
