Kilkenny heads off opponents to win award

Leeds United star Neil Kilkenny will soon become the envy of his team-mates when he receives a coveted Ultimate Finish award for his superb goal in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Darren Longthorne of Leeds was picked at random from everyone who voted for Neil. He wins an ipod nano, while Leeds United have agreed to provide two complimentary tickets for their home game with Colchester United on January 30, when the award will take place.

After each round a video of the best goals are displayed on the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy website for fans to log on and vote for their favorite from all the goals shortlisted. Neil’s emphatic finish came out on top for this round, with 63 per cent of fans voting it as their ‘ultimate finish’.

It beat Matty Robson’s goal for Carlisle United against Bradford City into second place (22 per cent) with Doherty third (15 per cent) for his effort at Southampton.

Neil said: “It is always nice to score, especially at the Kop end, so I will treasure the Ultimate Finish award.

“Accrington were causing us one or two problems at the time, so it was nice to get the goal, relieve a bit of pressure and help us into the next round.”

Winning supporter Darren said: “This has made my day! I am a big Leeds United fan and it means so much to get the chance to present one of my heroes with the award.”

Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick added: “Our Ultimate Finish area semi-final award has been the most popular yet. Hundreds of people voted and we thank everyone for taking part.”

After the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final, fans and customers will then have the opportunity to vote for the ‘Best 3 Goals of the Season.’ The winning goalscorers will be presented with a “Johnstone’s Paint Ultimate Finish of the Season Award” and one lucky entrant will win a fantastic Sony Playstation 3 console with latest Fifa game.
