Grimsby Town and Northampton Town are the top two clubs to win the latest Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s team of the round awards. The Mariners, who enjoyed a trip to Wembley in the trophy in 2008, scooped the accolade for the northern section, when they secured a notable scalp away at League One Hartlepool.
Northampton Town are also in line for a glistening new piece of silverware, courtesy of their 2-1 triumph over League 2 table toppers AFC Bournemouth.
The awards will be presented on the week commencing November 2, which the sides will hope to use as inspiration ahead of their tough area quarter final fixtures.
Johnstone’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “On a night when the goals were flying in across the country in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, we were particularly impressed with Grimsby’s clean sheet, as well as their clinical finishing.
“Meanwhile, Northampton Town impressed in equal measure for their never-say-die performance against Bournemouth which featured an injury time winner.”
Grimsby Town travel to Leeds United for their area quarter final tie on Tuesday November 10, which will be televised live on Sky Sports.
Northampton Town will make the short journey to MK Dons for their quarter final match on the same night.
