Torquay and Chesterfield scoop team of the round award

They are considerably smaller than the real thing, but the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s Team of the Round awards are already making a big mark with two league clubs. Torquay United and Chesterfield won the southern and northern section awards respectively for their performances in round one, when the Gulls beat Cheltenham and the Spireites beat Burton.

Johnstone’s Paint Trophy sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick was on hand to present Chesterfield with their award on Tuesday September 22.

Tommy Brady, Torquay Johnstone’s Leyland decorating centre manager, then made the short trip to Plainmoor on Thursday September 24 to present Torquay United with their honour.

It is hoped that the honours will now inspire the teams as they seek lengthy runs in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Torquay Boss Paul Buckle said: “It was great to receive the award. It means a lot to the club and the players and has given us something to remember our win at Cheltenham by.”

Chesterfield manager John Sheridan added: “It was lovely to receive this award so early in the season, which we hope will galvanise the lads as they get ready for the next round.”

Johnstone’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “Torquay and Chesterfield’s performances certainly impressed us all.

“It was clear they showed great spirit, determination, and no shortage of skill in dispatching tough opposition in Burton and Cheltenham respectively.

Torquay United travel to take on Southampton on Tuesday 6th October, while Chesterfield play Huddersfield Town.

Two more Team of the Round award winners will be announced after the second round has been completed next week.
