Hot off the printing press Kristina Carr with Team Abbott shirts

Carlisle fans putting their shirts on a special cause

A group of kind hearted Carlisle United fans are putting their shirts on a special cause ahead of their trip to Wembley – and they’re not talking about their beloved side.

February 2011

While Blues supporters are desperate to see their team prevail against Brentford on April 3, they are equally passionate about hitting the target off the pitch as well.

Led by supporter Kristina Carr, a number of specially made ‘Team Abbott’ T-shirts have been made, with all proceeds going to the Grace Little Centre project.

The idea came about through social networking site Twitter, where supporters would tweet their love for manager Greg Abbott by using the ‘Team Abbott’ slogan when tweeting.

It was then decided that the motto would be displayed on commemorative blue and white tops for fans to purchase, with the Mencap centre in Kingmoor Park benefitting.

In an impressive team effort, local business Carlisle Glass has paid for all printing and production costs, to the delight of Kristina and her fellow fans.

Former Carlisle United stars Richard Keogh and Joe Anyinsah are backing the fundraising idea, along with Norwich City star Grant Holt.

Kristina said: “It all started off as a bit of a laugh and was something I thought about making for myself.

“But then I sent a few emails to see if other supporters would be interested in the product, and it has gone from there.

“The more money we can get the better. If we can get a big group of supporters wearing the shirts while bringing in the proceeds for a brilliant cause, then that would be just perfect.”

The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s official Carlisle United blogger Mark Donnelly is also heavily involved with the idea.

He said: “Kristina and the rest of us are dotted around the country, so it would be brilliant if we start to see these shirts popping up all over the place.”
