Carlisle United fans to be given a present to remember

Carlisle United fans are being told to look forward to a giant sized present that there’ll never forget at Brunton Park, courtesy of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. Ahead of the Cumbrians’ clash with Port Vale in round two on Tuesday October 5, the trophy is officially presenting the club with the huge Carlisle United banner that was last seen at Wembley Stadium in front of their 25,000 fans in March.

The enormous item of regalia, adorned with club crest and colourful branding, was unfurled prior to kick off against Southampton in last season’s final.

As a gesture of thanks and goodwill to everyone at Carlisle United, the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy will be transporting it up to Brunton Park, where a local Scout or Guide group will wave it about on the pitch before kick-off.

Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “We have wanted to show our appreciation to everyone at Carlisle for some time, for the way they embraced the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last season and the fantastic run that they had.

“While their defeat to Southampton wasn’t the greatest sight for their fans, our huge inflatable banner was, and we received a number of positive comments from supporters about it after the game.

“We want to present Carlisle United with the banner for the club to keep, and to say thanks for all of their co-operation and support as they progressed through the rounds.

“The banner will be on the pitch before their second round game against Port Vale and we hope it will bring back fond memories for fans when they see it. We hope they get some good use out of it in the weeks, months and years to come.”

Carlisle United media officer Andy Hall added: “We are thrilled to be receiving the banner from Johnstone’s. It is a colourful spectacle when it’s unraveled for all to see, and I’m sure we’ll be putting it to good use in the future.”

Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
