Chesterfield fans dare to mention the 'P' word

It might only be October, but scores of Spireites fans are already using the ‘P’ word in their droves, and it doesn’t stand for ‘paint!’

October 2010

Chesterfield’s away following at Sheffield Wednesday was one of the early highlights of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy this season, despite their team narrowly losing to Sheffield Wednesday on penalties.

Supporters of the League 2 side were particularly chipper after making the short trip into Yorkshire and if there was one word that was consistently brought up in conversation, it was promotion come the end of the season.

Sean Martin, Ashley Billyeald and Macauley Dale singled out Dean Morgan, Craig Davies and Craig Clay as players to watch out for.

Sean said: “We want to get automatic promotion and think it is possible, but to get to the play-offs would also be an achievement.”

Darren Bonson, pictured with friends and family, was particularly upbeat about his side’s chances this season.

He added: “Automatic promotion has got to be our aim this season. We are playing very well away from home this season, so we just need to replicate that form at home.

“Success in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy would have been great. A trip to Wembley is something that every fan would want, but we have to get our heads down in the league now.”

Robert Plumtree, pictured with Ryan Higgins and Daniel Lockwood, said: “We’ve got lots of things to be upbeat and excited about.

“Because we are challenging at the top of the league, we have to concentrate on that. We should be looking to win the league with the side we have got.”

Tom Burrell, pictured with Sarah, said: “The new ground has played a big part in our outlook. We are all excited about the future and the new stadium has definitely played a part in this.”

And finally, Graham Crawley, Will Shaw, Marcus Allen and Ken Crawley said the secret to their team’s success lay in the talent on the pitch.

They said: “We have the players to achieve great things here. Craig Davies and Dean Morgan are fantastic and the whole spine of the team looks strong.”

Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
