Johnstone's discover a new matt product
The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy knows a thing or two about quality Matt products, so it should come as no surprise that it has discovered another.
The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy knows a thing or two about quality Matt products, so it should come as no surprise that it has discovered another.
This Matt is nothing to do with the decorating world however, but a Wycombe Wanderers striker by the name of McClure, who is similarly highly regarded for some memorable finishes.
Matt McClure is the latest player to be inducted into the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s Colourful Generation squad, in recognition of the young talent currently in the competition.
Each month, the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy will herald a promising player of tomorrow and will award his parent club with a donation of vouchers to spend at one of its 197 Johnstone’s decorating centres nationwide.
And if ever a young player was more suitable for recognition than Matt, then the trophy is yet to hear about him.
The 18-year-old striker has already starred in the trophy this season, setting-up one of the goals in Wycombe’s impressive 2-0 win at Colchester United in the previous round.
He is gaining valuable match experience through the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and has been highlighted as a potential goal machine for future seasons.
Matt said: “I am delighted to be chosen as a member of Johnstones’ Colourful Generation.
“I want to do as well as I possibly can in the competition, which means a lot to all of us.
“The manager has been trying to involve some of the young players in the trophy which has been great, and I have certainly benefited from the experience.
“I hope to get more action against Bristol Rovers next week and am excited about the game.”
Despite the southern twang to his accent, Matt is a Northern Ireland under-19 international and netted 26 times last season in a combination of games at youth and reserve level as well as loan spells at Wealdstone and Burnham.
He did his chances no harm in pre-season as he netted four times in the second half against local side Uxbridge in a brilliant individual performance.
This promoted his inclusion into the first team squad for the first time for the Blues’ Carling Cup first round tie with Millwall.
Matt concluded: “I came back well in pre-season and haven’t really looked back since. I think I surprised the manager early on and have been pleased to be in and around the first team squad.”
Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
