Johnstone's give Crewe and Wycombe a cause to celebrate

Wycombe Wanderers and Crewe Alexandra have been given cause to celebrate after winning the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s team of the round awards.

October 2010

The League Two sides have been honoured for their away day performances in the second round of the competition, where Wycombe beat Colchester 2-0 and Crewe dispatched local rivals Macclesfield Town 4-2.

The victory for Wycombe was their first in the competition since 2006 but worth waiting for, with Kevin Betsy and Scott Davies grabbing the goals.

The game featured some impressive attacking play on the night and was deemed worthy of the prestigious Johnstone’s award, despite a number of other outstanding performances on the same evening.

While Wycombe were causing something of an upset in the southern section, Crewe were finding the back of the net with ease in the north.

Lee Bell, David Artell and Joel Grant all found the scoresheet, to add to an own goal.

In addition, Grant’s goal has been shortlisted for the trophy’s Ultimate Finish award of the round.

The team of the round awards will be presented to both clubs in the week commencing October 25, ahead of the their forays into the area quarter finals, where Wycombe will entertain Bristol Rovers and Crewe will travel to Carlisle United.

Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “The team of the round awards were particularly tough to judge this time around but both clubs wowed us with their performances and were fully deserving of their accolades.”

Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
