As the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy enters its fifth consecutive year of netbulging action, we are calling on all League 1 and 2 fans to celebrate the milestone by voting for their ultimate ‘Famous Five Footballer.’
Johnstone’s Paints, which has just enjoyed a record breaking year as trophy sponsors, is urging supporters to vote for the clubman who is currently wearing the number five jersey with pride.
Whether it’s an inspirational skipper, a favourite penalty taker, or just a terrace cult hero, as long as they wear the number five shirt, Johnstone’s want fans to give them a shout.
By voting for their favourite number five player fans will also be automatically entered into a competition for the chance to win a state of the art Apple iPad or one of five iPod nano’s.
One lucky person picked at random will also get the chance to present the winning player with a magnum of champagne and will win a personalised number five shirt for themselves.
Supporters can vote throughout September and the ultimate ‘famous five’ footballer and competition winners will be announced at the beginning of October 2010.
Johnstone’s Paint Trophy sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “We are proud to sponsor the Football League Trophy for a fifth year and wanted to run a novel competition to celebrate the milestone.
“Many clubs place a great deal of history with their number five shirt, as some stalwarts of yesteryear have worn the jersey with distinction.
“It will be interesting to see which player is revered for wearing the shirt in the modern era through this competition.
“We always have fun collecting the votes and seeing which players are particularly popular and we are looking forward to more of the same.”
