Plymouth Argyle winger Craig Noone’s sweet strike in round two of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy has earned him a prestigious Ultimate Finish award, it was revealed.
Hundreds of fans voted for Noone’s classy left foot effort from distance against Cheltenham Town as the goal of the round, beating nine other impressive goals, including team mate Steve Maclean.
He will now be presented with his prize from lifelong fan Adam Collier, who was picked at random as the winner and can look forward to receiving an iPod nano.
Craig’s glorious goal polled 34 per cent of votes, beating Mark Bradley’s effort for Rotherham against Burton Albion into second place (26 per cent) with Jason Price third (19 per cent).
He said: “I enjoyed that one. It was nice to get the important second goal in the game and it meant a lot at the time.
“For so many fans to vote it as the trophy’s Ultimate Finish is brilliant and means I’ll have something to remember the goal by.
“I was confident I’d be in with a chance, but there were so many other good goals to choose from, so I knew it would be close.”
Plymouth Argyle entertain Exeter City in the area quarter finals next week, where Noone will again hope to steal the limelight.
Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “With 46 goals scored in the second round, it was difficult enough shortlisting the strikes, so we can’t imagine how tough it was for fans to actually vote for a winner.
“We saw Craig’s goal at Cheltenham and immediately thought it stood a chance. A sweet left footed goal from distance always takes some beating, and so it proved in this round.
“We’d like to congratulate Craig and wish him and his team all the best.”
Voting for the area quarter final Ultimate Finish will open on 17th November and closes on Monday 29th November.
The best goal will be announced on the website and all fans that vote for the same winning goal will be shortlisted into a prize draw.
Each round, the winning goalscorer will be presented with a “Johnstone’s Paint Ultimate Finish Award” and one lucky entrant will win an iPod nano.
After the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final, all fans will then have the opportunity to vote for the ‘Ultimate Finish of the Season.’
The winning goalscorer will be presented with a “Johnstone’s Paint Ultimate Finish of the Season Award” and one lucky entrant will win a fantastic Sony Playstation 3 console with latest Fifa game.
