One Swallow makes a summer in Johnstone's Paint Trophy!

Ben Swallow’s last minute thunderbolt for Bristol Rovers in the area quarter finals of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy has won the competition’s latest Ultimate Finish award.

December 2010

Hundreds of fans voted the youngster’s first ever senior goal as the best of the round, which came in his side’s 6-3 drubbing against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.

Swallow cut in from the right and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net with virtually the last kick of the game.

The goal beat Jordan Rhodes (Huddersfield Town), Therry Racon (Charlton Athletic), Ryan Harley (Exeter City) and Chris Clark (Plymouth Argyle) to the award.

Swallow now joins an elite group in winning the Ultimate Finish accolade, joining Swindon Town’s Vincent Pericard and Craig Noone of Plymouth Argyle from previous rounds.

With 27 per cent of fans’ votes, Swallow narrowly beat Therry Racon to the award (25 per cent) with Jordan Rhodes third (21 per cent).

The jubilant youngster said: “"It's a night I'll remember for a very long time and I have to admit that I've watched my goal again quite a few times since.

"Now I have a permanent reminder of that evening, thanks to everyone who voted my goal the best of the round."

Samuel Smith of Kellaway Avenue, Bristol, was picked at random as the winning fan to enter the competition and he will receive an iPod Nano from the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and the chance to present Ben with his Ultimate Finish award.

Sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “We are all delighted for Ben. It is lovely to see a youngster rising through the ranks and leaving an impression in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

“It was a goal we will all remember for a long time and a worthy winner.”

Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
