Rovers return to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy

The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy has welcomed back Tranmere Rovers to the competition, after their first round conquerors withdrew.

October 2010

Accrington Stanley – who beat Rovers on penalties at Prenton Park – pleaded guilty to a charge of fielding a suspended player and have agreed to withdraw from the trophy.

It means that Tranmere Rovers will now entertain Stockport County

on Tuesday 26th October 2010 (kick-off 7.45pm).

The winners will then play Bury during week commencing 8th November 2010, as per the existing Johnstone’s Paint Trophy schedule.

A Football League statement read: ‘Tranmere Rovers have been re-instated into this season’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy as a result of Accrington Stanley fielding a suspended player in the Northern Section first round tie between the two clubs.

‘This decision follows confirmation from Accrington that the club is now pleading guilty to the charge, and accepts that it should not be permitted to continue in the competition. Accrington have therefore agreed to withdraw from the competition.’

Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
