Tranmere Rovers penalty shoot-out victory

Spot-on Rovers enter Area Quarter Finals

The line-up for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area Quarter Finals is finally complete after Tranmere Rovers held their nerve to beat Stockport County on penalties.

October 2010

With Tranmere's first round conquerors Accrington withdrawing from the trophy, Rovers were given a second bite of the Johnstone's Paint cherry.

And on this evidence, they intend to make the most of it as Les Parry's men showed a great deal of grit and determination to overcome their League Two counterparts.

After the game ended 0-0 in normal time, it was time for a hero to emerge for the two sides.

Fortunately for Rovers, the hero was found in the shape of keeper Peter Gulasci who made an all important save, while County's George Donnelly also missed the target.

It was Tranmere's first penalty shoot-out success since 1991 and manager Les Parry was a relieved man afterwards. "We did practise penalties the day before the game to sort out who our takers would be. Now we have won one, we know we can do it again."

Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
