Terriers barking about the Johnstone's Paint Trophy

Not content with writing a number of impressive headlines in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy this season, Huddersfield Town are also creating an endearing tale of romance.

November 2010

Ahead of the Terriers’ trip to Tranmere Rovers, Lee Clark has been waxing lyrical about the merits of the trophy, in which his side has plundered eight goals in just two games.

It’s a far cry from the club’s three previous dalliances in the competition, which ended unceremoniously against Grimsby Town (2007), Darlington (2008) and Chesterfield (2009).

But the former Newcastle and Fulham star has been at pains to write the wrongs of those disappointments and has been talking up his team’s chances of reaching Wembley from the very first round.

His words appear far from hollow with the Terriers winning the trophy’s Team of the Round award for their impressive demolition of Rotherham, while star man Jordan Rhodes has been shortlisted to win the Ultimate Finish prize for the area quarter finals.

Clark said: “Games in the cup are knock-out games and we have got aspirations to go to Wembley this year. That would be fantastic for the fans.

“We have seen what happened with Southampton last season. It is a great occasion and we are desperate to progress further, starting at Tranmere Rovers in the semi finals.”

Assistant boss Terry McDermott echoed the manager’s sentiments, adding that the prospect of a Wembley experience should be used a massive incentive.

He added: “The opportunity to play at the Home of Football doesn’t come around every day, so we realise what an important competition this is.

“We have said from our second round game against Peterborough that the trophy means a great deal to us, and nothing has changed our view.”

Huddersfield Town will travel to Prenton Park to play Tranmere Rovers in the area semi finals on Tuesday November 30.

Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
