Two lifelong fans set to beat the butterflies

It won’t just be Carlisle United and Brenford’s sets of players who’ll be nervous on Sunday.

March 2011

Carlisle United fan Trevor Rogerson and Brentford fan Samantha Graham will be performing an extremely important job before kick-off and they are bound to have an equal number of butterflies.

The pair will be walking down Wembley tunnel and out into the gaze of a packed stadium with the match ball, before giving it to referee Graham Salisbury after winning the money can’t buy prize in a Johnstone’s Decorating Centre competition.

Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “This is the first time we have organised an opportunity like this, and it has captured the imagination.

“To present the match ball on Wembley’s hallowed turf really is once in a life time experience that will live long in the memory, so we hope Trevor and Samantha enjoy the occasion.”

The pre-match ball presentation will form part of a huge package of activities on the day of the final by Johnstone’s Paint, including a half time penalty shoot-out for youngsters aged between nine and twelve.

In addition, the final of the Johnstone’s Paints nationwide five-a-side competition will take place prior to kick-off, in another unprecedented event for diehard football enthusiasts.

Teresa added: “We always strive to enhance the experiences of the fans in every way possible throughout the course of the season and our final is the culmination of a huge effort by everyone at Johnstone’s.”
