The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy is hoping to hit the 50,000 attendance mark at this year’s final, after Swindon Town and Chesterfield fans snapped up tickets in their droves.
The Wiltshire promotion chasers have already shifted 27,000 seats and are hoping to hit the 30,000 mark come March 25, while the Spireites have sold 16,500 to date.
Swindon Town’s chief executive Nick Watkins praised his club’s supporters for ‘a great achievement’ in selling so many tickets, while Chesterfield are similarly delighted with their fans’ efforts.
With thousands more expected to go ahead of the final, Johnstone’s is confident of hitting the magical 50,000 figure by the time the two teams step out at Wembley.
Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “We have already sold more tickets than last season’s final between Brentford and Carlisle United, which attracted an attendance of 40,000.
“An increase of up to 10,000 would be a phenomenal achievement and underlines the trophy’s standing as a competition that means a great deal to League One and Two sides.
“We are expecting more sales between now and kick off and we would urge any fans to book now to see a sporting occasion that they will be sure to treasure for many years to come.”
