Chesterfield going for a song with a spireite singing sensation!

Forget Ossie’s Dream and the Anfield Rap… …When it comes to a cup final song to savour, a Chesterfield fan by the name of Carl Newton has written a real masterpiece to remember.

March 2012

The lifelong Spireites fan has penned a Wembley final anthem to rival any other, to commemorate his side’s progress to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final.

His ‘Town Song’ has already received 11,000 clicks on You Tube and is played before every home game, making it a firm fans’ favourite already.

Carl, a regular on the Saltergate Kop before taking his seat at the B2net Stadium, said that his inspiration was taken from an American band called Bouncing Souls, who wrote a similarly uplifting track for their local basketball team.

He said: “I have always been a Chesterfield fan and I have always been a musician, so I just felt that it was the right thing to do.

“It was a Sunday afternoon, there was some rubbish on the TV so I thought I’d disappear to the studio and start writing a song.”

Carl has already received some lovely feedback on the song, and has even been booked to play in a local pub as the punters have been singing the lyrics every weekend.

“I have had some lovely comments from people at the club who say that it should even be played at Wembley!

“I actually started writing the song last season when we had such a memorable season but our progress in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy made me sit down and record it properly.

“I see a lot of similarities in our trophy run as our championship win in 2011. We’ve shown great spirit and togetherness in achieving success last season, just like we have in defying the odds to reach the final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.”
