If Chesterfield fans weren’t gripped by Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final fever before, then they certainly are now after the silverware was shown off to everyone in the town.
If Chesterfield fans weren’t gripped by Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final fever before, then they certainly are now after the silverware was shown off to everyone in the town.
A trophy tour to the Midlands Co-Operative whipped up excitement levels yet further, with supporters, players and the mayor and mayoress coming to have their photos taken with the prestigious prize.
Players Nathan Smith, Jimmy Juan, Mark Randall and Alex Mendy were on hand to get their pictures taken with onlookers, while musician Carl Newton played his hugely popular ‘Town Song’ which earned him tickets to Sunday’s final through a ‘JPT Factor’ competition.
The mayor of Chesterfield, councillor Peter Barr, said: “In the last few weeks, everyone has got so motivated about it all and they are all right behind the Spireites.
“So many are going down to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final. On occasions like this they all come out to support the team and to have up to 20,000 fans going down will be absolutely incredible.”
Local press were quick to cover the event and the trophy’s sponsorship manager, Teresa Hardwick, said the day had been a resounding success.
“We were thrilled to meet so many people at the trophy tour in Chesterfield, who all told us they had their tickets ready for the final on Sunday.
“The response from the supporters reminded us why our trophy tours are so important to us.
“To be able to bring the trophy along to the fans and let them see it for themselves was a wonderful sight.
“We were also able to give away Johnstone’s Paint memorabilia and details of our local decorating centre in Storforth Lane.
“It seems that everyone in the town will be flocking to the final, and we look forward to seeing them again on Sunday.”
