Famous five goals shortlisted for Johnstone's Paint Trophy award
With five phenomenal strikes from the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area quarter finals being shortlisted for an Ultimate Finish award, the impossible task of choosing a favourite must now begin.
Twenty six goals, an average of more than three per game, have been whittled down to five and fans are now being urged to pick the best effort.
Matt Phillips and Michael Flynn will consider themselves early contenders to scoop the Ultimate Finish award, having scored belters in front of the television cameras for Sheffield United and Bradford City respectively.
But the quality of Oliver Risser (Swindon Town), Adam McGurk (Tranmere Rovers) and Luca Scapuzzi’s (Oldham Athletic) goals makes the overall competition too close to call.
Supporters are asked to view exclusive video footage displayed
featuring each one of the impressive efforts, with the most popular goal winning.
To reiterate, the shortlisted players are:
Matt Phillips; SHEFFIELD UNITED v Bradford City
Sheffield United v BRADFORD CITY
Oliver Risser; SWINDON TOWN v AFC Wimbledon
Adam McGurk; Chesterfield v TRANMERE ROVERS
Luca Scapuzzi; OLDHAM ATHLETIC v Crewe Alexandra
The best goal will be announced shortly after the closing date and all fans that vote for the same winning goal will be shortlisted into a prize draw. Each round, the winning goalscorer will be presented with a ‘Johnstone’s Paint Ultimate Finish Award’ and one lucky entrant will win an iPod Nano.
Voting closes on 5th December.
And as an added incentive, fans of the Ultimate Finish winner will be entitled to redeem a
voucher enabling them to collect a free goodie bag from any Johnstone’s or Johnstone’s Leyland Decorating Centre within a 20 mile radius of the winning player’s parent club.
The goodie bag containing official footballs and other memorabilia is available for all the Ultimate Finish winner’s fans with any purchase of Johnstone’s, Leyland or Fat Hog products.
Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “As stunning goals go, we were treated to some absolute gems in the area quarter finals.
“Twenty six goals flew into the net from a mere eight games, so choosing a shortlist was hard enough.
“To predict an overall winner is too tough, which is why we need as many supporters to vote as possible!”
Huddersfield Town’s Donal McDermott took the honours in round one for his strike against Northampton Town, while Notts County’s Karl Hawley took the title in round two.
