Handle with care! Ball to referee winner's announced

As if watching their beloved teams in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final wasn’t enough, one Chesterfield and Swindon Town fan will hand over the official match ball before kick-off.

March 2012

In a unique opportunity for fans of both finalist teams, supporters were invited to enter a competition to step onto the hallowed turf and complete one of the most important tasks of the entire day – presenting the referee with the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy football.

Lifelong Chesterfield and Swindon Town fans Ryan Buttery and Terry Davitt were picked at random to win the trophy’s exclusive Ball to Referee competition after purchasing some Johnstone’s Paint products from their local Decorating Centres in Chesterfield and Swindon.

Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “We hope that both Terry and Ryan will have a fantastic time presenting the official match ball to the referee.

“We wanted to create a unique opportunity which would appeal for fans and generate a great deal of extra interest around the final.

“From the hundreds of entries we have received, the idea appears to have gone down particularly well and we look forward to seeing Ryan and Terry on the day.”
