Simpson nets the silver after six month wait
He might have had to wait six months for it, but Brentford striker Robbie Simpson has finally been presented with his Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final medal.
He might have had to wait six months for it, but Brentford striker Robbie Simpson has finally been presented with his Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final medal.
To prove that persistence pays, the 26 year-old has got his hands on the silverware after making a number of requests to the competition.
Unfortunately for Robbie, he found himself effectively cup-tied for the final against Carlisle United last season, as he was on loan from parent club Huddersfield Town.
But due to his impressive efforts on the pitch during the Bees’ march to Wembley, the trophy has commissioned an extra medal for him, with the help of Brentford’s backroom staff and medal makers Thomas Lyte.
He has now been presented with it, before promptly being told to play a big part in his side’s current quest for trophy glory.
Robbie said: “It was terrible to be on the losing end of the game at Wembley, but I still wanted to get my hands on a medal to remember the journey by.
“The trophy did play a big part in our season and we have some wonderful memories of our run in the competition. To get a medal at long last gives me something to commemorate our efforts.”
Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “We knew that Robbie had been hopeful of getting a medal but unfortunately for us, they had all been issued to the club, meaning he was the one player to miss out.
“But thanks to our medal makers Thomas Lyte, they managed to create another one and it is now in Robbie’s hands at last.
“It would be lovely for him and the club if they could get their hands on another one this season, but there is a long way to go before we get that far!”
Brentford will play AFC Bournemouth at 7.45pm on Tuesday November 8 in the area quarter finals.
Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
