Spireites squad hoping to give Sheridan a selection headache

Chesterfield’s Wembley bound group of players are positively ‘buzzing’ about the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final, despite not being sure if they’ll even have a place in the team come Sunday.

March 2012

Popular squad men Nathan Smith and Mark Randall said their side’s run in the competition had been a huge boost for morale, but admitted they are far from guaranteed a starting berth.

Mark said: “You have got to try hard to get into the team every day, but the lads have been putting everything into training to try and convince the manager to give them a shirt.

“We are at the bottom of the league table which says we are struggling a bit, but everyone has got a chance to get into the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy side.

“Obviously the game against Huddersfield Town is a big priority but after that, it is a case of getting our minds right for Sunday.”

Nathan said: “All the lads are buzzing. The spirit in the camp is great and we just need to go out and do what we have got to do come Sunday.

Jimmy Juan and Alex Mendy – the Spireites’ French Connection – said the prospect of playing in front of up to 50,000 fans at the Home of Football was one they couldn’t have dreamt of when making their moves to England.

Alex said: “Everybody wants to play in this game so it will be tough for the gaffer to pick a team, so hopefully I will be in it.

When you get the chance to play at Wembley, it is a big thing for an Englishman so for a Frenchman, it is a really big thing.

“I hope I will be playing there. It will be a great memory.”

Ex-Monaco man Jimmy added: “I was injured and have just come back and I hope I will be in the squad but the most important thing is that the team will win.

“It is a very important trophy.”

Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
