Swindon comes to a standstill to catch a glimpse of the trophy

The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy brought Swindon to a virtual standstill on Thursday when hundreds of fans flocked to catch a glimpse of the silverware ahead of the final.

In the most successful ‘trophy tour’ ever organised by the sponsors, more than 500 fans queued to get their pictures taken with the trophy, while meeting Swindon Town players Matt Ritchie, Alan Connell and captain Paul Caddis.

Following a visit to fellow finalists Chesterfield on Monday, the trophy hit the M4 to meet as many Robins supporters as possible

Clare Scarth, head of retail for Swindon Town, said: “It’s been an amazing turnout. We knew it would be big having the trophy here as well as three key players. The queue has gone around the block.

“I think everyone was a bit doom and gloom at the start of the season but the way things have panned out, it is just a huge success story for everyone.”

Johnstone’s Paint Trophy sponsorship manager Teresa Hardwick said: “As the big final approaches, we always try to visit the towns of both finalists to show off the trophy and let fans have their pictures taken with it.

“Our visit to Swindon took our breath away. We are used to seeing a number of fans, but the vision of queues around the shopping centre was phenomenal.

“It is safe to say that trophy fever has well and truly gripped Swindon and we look forward to seeing them all again at Wembley on Sunday.”
