Will Grigg, Shrewsbury Town

Where there's a Will, there's a way

When it comes to the taming of the Shrews in this season’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, then a youngster by the name of Grigg might just be the man to do it.

August 2011

To kick-off a new season Johnstone’s Paint Trophy’s Colourful Generation inductees, the competition turns its attention to a young Saddler who might just be about to make his mark in the competition, starting with Shrewsbury Town.

Each fortnight, the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy will herald a promising player of tomorrow and will award his parent club with a donation of vouchers to spend at one of its 200 Decorating Centres nationwide, starting with Walsall’s Will Grigg.

Will is already being described as a young player of undoubted talent and ability who has made tremendous progress in recent years.

The 20 year-old’s performances whilst coming through the ranks were enough to earn a squad number in December 2008 and the skilful striker was handed his first-team debut as a late substitute in a goalless draw at Cheltenham later that month.

Signing his first professional contract in the summer of 2009, his game has continued to develop in leaps and bounds and last term he started to really make an impact on the first-team stage, weighing in with his first senior goals as well as breaking into the Northern Ireland Under-21 team.

It was enough to earn the level-headed youngster the Young Player of the Season award.

He made his full debut for Walsall away against Torquay United in the FA Cup second round on 27 November 2010.

He scored his first senior goal in the 2–2 draw against Bristol Rovers on 11 January 2011 and is already looking sharp this season, bagging against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane in a 3-2 defeat.

Johnstone’s. Bringing colour to the beautiful game.
