Johnstone's takes wood colour to new heights

Leading paint manufacturer Johnstone’s continues to provide professional decorating contractors with endless design possibilities after launching a new range of tinting bases for its exterior Woodworks Woodstains and Opaque Finish products.

July 2010

The well established range of wood care coatings and stains offer high levels of protection to timber projects, as well as enhancing the natural features of the wood and grain to provide a stunning finish.

Utilising the full capacity of Johnstone’s unique colour tinting system, which is the most advanced in the UK, Johnstone’s Woodworks Classic Matt and Satin Woodstains will now be available in a select palette of wood tones and inspired primary and secondary colour shades. The range of Opaque Wood Finishes now boast additional vibrant tinted colours and dulcet tones, ensuring it is easier than ever before to find the perfect colour combination for any project.

The advanced technology of the Johnstone’s tinting machines mean that as well as the select palette of the most popular colours being available, it is possible to tint the Woodworks bases to thousands of colours on request.

Helping to dramatically improve product performance, quality and more importantly the customer experience, the colourants and bases offer unprecedented levels of coverage, opacity, colour retention and vibrancy. In addition to providing a greater choice of shade and tone, the tinting system also ensures a consistently high level of paint quality across all colours and finishes, making it the ideal resource for a wide variety of projects.

The state-of-the-art tinting machines, which work by mixing a chosen colour pigment with either a clear stain base or white opaque base to produce the desired tone, can be found in all Johnstone’s Leyland Decorating Centres across the UK, as well as in 85 independent stockists nationwide.

The tinted Woodstain products are available in a variety of finishes to suit the individual project, including Classic Matt, Satin and Quick Dry Satin, while the Opaque Wood Finish and Quick Dry Opaque Wood Finish are available in a satin finish. Woodworks Woodstains and Opaque Wood Finishes have been developed to offer long lasting protection from the effects of weathering, providing a long-term maintenance solution to wood protection. The UV resistance properties offer colour fade protection, while the microporous coatings allow the wood to breathe, preventing rot and prolonging the life of the flexible finish. Products are available as either solvent-borne which offer traditional application properties, or water-borne which provide a quick drying, low odour solution.

Due to the nature of the products, Woodworks Woodstains are best suited for use over bare, clean timber, allowing the natural grain of the wood to feature through, but won’t cover surface blemishes or discolouration. The Opaque Wood Finish, with its superb covering power, is best suited over wood that is aged and tired looking, but can also be used over bare timber where an opaque finish is required.
